6 Key Points to Consider when choosing a PV System

It’s a new year and you’re looking to change some things up in your life, and one of those is making the decision to add a photovoltaic solar system to your home or office. When considering adding photovoltaic solar panels to your building, there are some things you’ll want to consider. We’ll recommend some for you here:

  1. Do you know where you would like to place your panels? This is important as it will determine the size of your panel installation which is directly correlated to the potential energy which can be generated by your photovoltaic (PV) system. Size matters!
  2. Which brings us to performance. You’re going to be looking for panels which balance efficiency with the seamless generation of power. Average panel efficiency is around 15-22%, so you’re going to be looking for capabilities in this range or above.
  3. If you’re going to be installing your solar panels on your roof, then you’ll need to consider the compatibility of your roof with a solar panel array. Not only will the direct sunlight hours (positioning) need to be considered, but you’ll also need to ensure that your intended installation location is structurally sound and can withstand our tropical weather, especially during the hurricane season.
  4. The expected lifespan and the durability of your panels should also be taken into account. Make sure that your provider can back up their claims of both.
  5. Will your provider offer service and maintenance on your PV system? Cleaning and debris removal are usually quite easily done, but actual servicing and component checks need to be done by a professional to ensure that your solar system is generating electrical power as efficiently as it can at all times.  Ask about maintenance packages to get this conversation going.
  6. Make sure that you understand the warranty being offered by your photovoltaic solar system provider and know that the company has the reputation of being able to back it up.

Directions

Travelling on the ABC highway from JTC Ramsay (Bussa) Roundabout/Haggatt Hall heading south, take the first left just after you pass the pedestrian overpass outside CBC TV. Take the second left and we're the last building on the right at the end of the avenue.

If you’re coming up the highway from the south, you will need to go to Bussa Roundabout and reverse your direction of travel, as entry to the avenue is only available on the southbound lanes.
